Applications for Off-Grid renewable power systems

Off-Grid

(aka stand-alone or autonomous power) systems typically involve a PV array and/or wind turbine and/or generator to charge a battery bank. A system involving more than one (1) charging source is referred to as a Hybrid Power System. The battery bank may then directly power DC loads and/or AC loads simultaneously via an inverter/charger.

Applications for Off-Grid renewable power systems are numerous:

Cottages Many cottages in Canada do not have access to grid power, and thus stand alone renewable power systems are a good alternative to noisy, polluting fossil fuel generators.	Government Municipal, provincial and federal governments have facilities in remote areas such as parks that do not have access to grid power. Off-grid renewable power is often the best option.
Telecommunications Matrix Energy has designed and supplied numerous off-grid renewable energy systems to power both DC and AC telecom equipment in remote areas from Peru to northern Canada.	Outdoor lighting With rapid advances in low power LED lighting technology, PV powered lighting systems for signs, parks, streets, walkways and parking lots are increasingly being deployed worldwide.
Oil & Gas SCADA and other equipment installed in remote areas are often powered by battery-based PV and/or wind power systems.	Traffic & Signaling Traffic management, message boards and other roadside equipment with no grid access are often powered by battery-based PV systems.
Security Remote cameras and security equipment require reliable, uninterrupted power such as stand-alone PV / wind power systems.	Marine Buoys, boats and critical coastal signaling equipment are good candidates for stand alone power systems.
Refrigeration Critical refrigeration in remote areas for such items as food, vaccines and other medical supplies are now often powered by off-grid PV/wind systems.
