Matrix Energy Inc. awarded contract to supply a grid connected 8.4 kWp
photovoltaic system for Canada Custom’s and Revenue Agency
Montreal, November, 2004
Matrix Energy Inc.
announced today that it received a contract to provide an 8.4 kWp
grid-connected photovoltaic system for the new border crossing station
at Stanstead, Quebec. The 8.4 kWp solar system is comprised of forty
eight, Shell Solar’s SQ series, 175 watt solar modules divided into
three separate solar arrays each feeding a 3 kW Fronius inverter. The
system is expected to generate over 16000 kwh of energy annually.
Says Sylvain Saumure,
the Project Manager for CCRA, “The brand new border station will
replace the older facility that had been outgrown by the more that
385,000 cars and trucks that will now use that border each year”. The
photovoltaic array will be a striking, aethestic feature of the new
building clearly visible to the visitors to Canada given its
installation directly above the vehicle entrance.
According to Brian
Wilkinson, President of Matrix Energy Inc., “this
system is one that could be easily replicated across other
non-residential and residential buildings across Canada. Over its
useful lifetime of more than 40 years, one 100 watt solar module
operating in Canada will produce more than 10 MWh of power. That goes
a long way to reduce our GHG emissions while reinforcing our energy
sustainability.”
This new grid-tied
photovoltaic system follows on the successful installation of other
similar systems in Quebec and across Canada.
