In 2009 Matrix Energy was approached by Laval University’s Centre for Northern Studies (Centre d’Études Nordiques - CEN) in requesting the design and specification of seven grid-tied and six off-grid Photovoltaic (PV) power systems totaling 37.8 kWp. The tenders for the PV systems were developed by engineering consultants CIB Groupe Conseil, and Matrix Energy received an order for equipment supply from Valko Electrique in early 2010. The installations were completed in the second half of 2010 and 2011.

Solar Thermal Systems growth continues in 2010

A recent survey of the Canadian Solar Thermal Industry commissioned by Natural resources Canada shows continued industry growth in 2010.

Total combined domestic 2010 revenue for Canadian manufacturers of solar thermal systems reached $29.2million, an increase of 37% over the $21.3 million reported in 2009.

Total (domestic plus export) collector sales in 2010 were 252,146 m², the first time that the 200,000 m² figure has been exceeded. It is now estimated that 1,033,864 m² of solar collectors are operating in Canada, the first time that this value has exceeded one million square meters. Factoring in export sales of another $8M and overall industry growth topped nearly 76% in 2010 over 2009. This is the eighth consecutive year that this survey has indicated that the total revenue earned by the Canadian solar thermal industry has grown over the previous year.

Matrix Energy will begin shipping the Enecsys™ micro-inverters starting in July 2011

Montreal QC – May 20, 2011—Matrix Energy is pleased to announce the launch of the Enecsys™ Micro-inverter to the Ontario market.
Enecsys was founded in 2003 to manufacture micro-inverters based on the patented technology developed at Cambridge University. With its corporate headquarters in the UK, the company also has offices in Germany and the United States.
The advantages of micro-inverters are well known. Energy harvest is improved particularly in shady conditions; they avoid the complications associated with string inverter array planning; they facilitate installation and provide both system and module level performance monitoring.
Despite these advantages micro-inverters typically suffer from higher cost, unreliable components and failure due to high temperatures. Enecsys™ has some key features that alleviate these issues to provide marketable benefits to the installer and end customers alike.
Matrix Energy supplies MatrixAir™ Delta rooftop solar heating panels for Longueuil’s Bord de L’Eau multi-residential public housing complex

Montreal, QC - April 20, 2011-Matrix Energy, Inc., North America’s premier supplier of solar air heating systems announced today it is supplying its MatrixAir™ Delta rooftop solar air heating system to a major new LEED® Canada for Homes-certified public housing project, showcasing practical, energy-saving green technologies.
Matrix Energy’s innovative, modular panel system was chosen by the Longueuil public housing authority for its 180-unit Bord de L’Eau project. The MatrixAir™ Delta system harnesses the sun’s energy to cost-effectively pre-heat a ventilation system’s incoming fresh air during the heating season, up ten months of the year.
“Using MatrixAir Delta will significantly reduce our environmental footprint, dramatically cut heating costs over the life of these buildings, and provide a major boost to our objective of LEED® Canada for Homes certification,” said Sylvain Boily, general manager of the Longueuil public housing authority.
The MatrixAir™ Delta heating system is projected to deliver over 120 Mwh of solar heat annually for the life of the building, providing energy savings of 15,000 cubic metres of natural gas each year, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 11 Tonnes.
While evaluating the benefits of solar air heating, the Longueuil public housing authority recognized the value Matrix Energy could add to its project. "This system provides a cost competitive solution for the energy efficiency measures which are included as part of the project", said Boily.
The multi-residential housing complex is currently under construction on Montreal’s south shore. A LEED® Canada for Homes-certified building is designed and built in accordance with the rigorous guidelines of the LEED Canada for Homes green building certification program operated by the Canada Green Building Council.
"Matrix Energy’s roof-top solar air heating systems were conceived specifically for multi-residential or commercial buildings, and are also compatible with green roof systems,” said Brian Wilkinson of Matrix Energy.
