MatrixAir™ Delta rooftop solar heating panels for Longueuil’s Bord
Matrix Energy supplies MatrixAirT Delta rooftop solar heating panels for Longueuil's Bord de L'Eau multi-residential public housing complexMontreal QC – April 20, 2011
Matrix Energy, Inc., North America’s premier supplier of solar air heating systems announced today it is supplying its MatrixAir™ Delta rooftop solar air heating system to a major new LEED® Canada for Homes-certified public housing project, showcasing practical, energy-saving green technologies.
Matrix Energy’s innovative, modular panel system was chosen by the Longueuil public housing authority for its 180-unit Bord de L’Eau project. The MatrixAir™ Delta system harnesses the sun’s energy to cost-effectively pre-heat a ventilation system’s incoming fresh air during the heating season, up ten months of the year.
“Using MatrixAirTM Delta will significantly reduce our environmental footprint, dramatically cut heating costs over the life of these buildings, and provide a major boost to our objective of LEED® Canada for Homes certification,” said Sylvain Boily, general manager of the Longueuil public housing authority.
The MatrixAir™ Delta heating system is projected to deliver over 120 Mwh of solar heat annually for the life of the building, providing energy savings of 15,000 cubic metres of natural gas each year, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 11 Tonnes.
While evaluating the benefits of solar air heating, the Longueuil public housing authority recognized the value Matrix Energy could add to its project. "This system provides a cost competitive solution for the energy efficiency measures which are included as part of the project", said Boily.
The multi-residential housing complex is currently under construction on Montreal’s south shore. A LEED® Canada for Homes-certified building is designed and built in accordance with the rigorous guidelines of the LEED Canada for Homes green building certification program operated by the Canada Green Building Council.
"Matrix Energy’s roof-top solar air heating systems were conceived specifically for multi-residential or commercial buildings, and are also compatible with green roof systems,” said Brian Wilkinson of Matrix Energy.
Wilkinson added that the maintenance free, MatrixAir™ Delta and other MatrixAir™ transpired solar air heating systems are characterized by high operating efficiencies and a competitive return on investment. Each ten foot Delta module delivers 250 CFM of preheated fresh air into the building environment.
